Why do some people choose to represent themselves In traffic court while others prefer to have an attorney represent them? It all depends on the level of risk you face and the outcome you desire.

If you have been cited for speeding, or if this is one of many speeding tickets you've received or a charge of excessive speed; operating a vehicle without a license or registration; operating a vehicle with a suspended license or suspended registration; reckless driving; texting while driving; or use of a cell phone while driving; possession of alcohol and/or possession of drugs – you face the grim possibility of losing your license, not to mention significant fines and other repercussions.

Although some people may feel that they can successfully plead their case before a judge or possibly discuss reduction of the charge with the arresting officer, failure to be properly represented can result in an unacceptable set of circumstances. Should the judge find their attitude insolent or disrespectful, or if their explanations fail to exonerate their culpability, their efforts may backfire with ensuing punishment equivalent to the maximum allowed by law.

This can mean any number of possibilities such as steep fines, loss of license, elevated insurance premiums, restricted driving privileges, and more.

The presence of an attorney who is adept at successful communication with a judge in the formal courtroom setting indicates to the court that you have respect for the law, the process and the risks you face. With an attorney presenting your case in a positive, professional manner, your attitude is not under judgment and your offense, your situation and your preferred outcome can be regarded with more understanding and compassion.

While not every ticket can be dismissed or even reduced, and not every fine or penalty removed, the chances of a better outcome in the hands of a lawyer who is respected by the judge are a lot better than if you were to handle it yourself.

Do you feel your offense warrants the help of a reputable attorney? If so, Basso Law Group is available to help you. Give us a call for a free initial consult. It will cost you nothing to weigh your options.
